The Purpose of the Blog

In California, we are in the middle of a drought. Our water uses are too much for the minimal rain and snowfalls over the past four years. The snowpack is our main water supply and has been below average for four consecutive years. If we keep using the amount of water we are using now, we will completely run out. We are currently using our groundwater, kind of like our backup storage.

To tell the truth, farms are using up most of our water supply, and by raising so much livestock, we waste water, land and we pollute the earth. Cows create methane, which is a greenhouse gas. Animal agriculture is responsible for ⅕ of the gas emissions worldwide. This is a problem that we need to fix.

In science class, we have been learning about water around the world, and how hard it is for people in many places to access clean water, which leads to health problems. Also, many girls around the world are responsible for getting water for their families, which often means walking for hours each day, and missing out on opportunities for education. We are doing a fundraiser for http://www.water.org/, an organization that helps people around the world access clean water. This is why we are writing this blog: To educate the public about water, in California and around the world!

Save Water
by Frank

In science class I learned that an average family uses 881 gallons per week just by flushing the toilet. We should save water whenever we can because people in Africa don't have as much water as us and their water is dirty.

We use a lot of water when we take showers, a 10 minute shower uses 40 gallons. You can help by putting a bucket to catch the water and water the plants.

Also, people use when they don't need it. People could turn off the water while scrubbing their hands or brushing their teeth.

Another reason to save water is that some places in the world don't have water. In Africa girls don't go to school because they have to walk miles for a bucket of water.

In conclusion I think we should save water and there are many great ways to do it.

The production of  red meat is bad for the environment. Red meat is also bad because it takes up a lot of  water and it releases greenhouse gases.  I believe that cows are bad for the environment because it takes 28 times more land and 11 times more water

Some people may say that the drought doesn’t matter to them because they have plenty of water left, but then I would say that it matters to other people that don’t have as much water, they could die because they have such polluted water, and so little of it.

How to Save Water
by My Name is Jeff

So I am walking out the door to go outside, and then I heard the news say something about the drought. I stopped and took a look. They were talking about ways we can save water. Boom it hit me, I am going to try to save water. I looked up what can I do to save water and there are a whole bunch of ways, like don’t eat lots of beef. I think we need to save water because we would help the environment.

EAT LESS BEEF
Beef makes the most water waste. It uses 1000 gallons of water for one steak. Some people don’t know that beef is a big water waste. You can try the “vegan till 6:00” or the Meatless Monday. Vegan till 6 is when you don’t eat meat till 6, and Meatless Monday is when you don’t eat meat on Mondays.

SAVING WATER AROUND THE HOUSE
There are a lot of ways to save water around the house. One way is that we can use shower water to flush the toilet. Another thing is we can use the soap to put it on your hands and then turn the water on instead of turn on the water while you put soap on your hands. Also don’t water your grass so much because it waste 180 gallons of water.

Conclusion
In conclusion we should safe water to help the environment. People say it’s hard to not eat meat but when you try for one day it will make a difference. The environment is really important so we don’t want go on a drought.
EAT LESS ROAST  B.E.E.F.
by M-money
Eating beef wastes a lot of water. It takes more water to raise cows that to raise any other animal. I was so disappointed to find that out in science class. We need  to conserve water by eating less red meat.

One reason is that we should eat less beef is because it wastes water. By eating cows we wastes 28 times more land and 11 times more water than other farm animals. This shows that cows wastes a lot of land and water.

It is not that hard to cut back on meat. Richard Branson said, “I thought it would be so hard to stop eating meat, but in fact it is not, I never feel like I’m missing out on anything.’’ You should try Meatless Mondays or being “vegan till 6”. Some people say that if we don’t eat meat, we’d have to eat lots and lots of vegetables to get all the calories we need. But I would argue you could get calories from  other things like bread, and fruits, and peanut butter.

Also, cows release a  greenhouse gas called methane. It comes from cows’ farts and manure.  Methane traps hot air inside the earth.  It evaporates water too fast. Worst, it  destroys the ozone  layer. WE NEED THE OZONE LAYER FOR NEXT  GENERATIONS.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, eating beef is bad for the environment. It destroys the earth and wastes thousands of gallons of water. Save more water.

How to Save Water
by J

Did you ever wonder if you can save water??????? I think we should save water, because it’s good for the environment and if we do not save water, humans and animals won’t have water to drink and they will die.

Saving water is good, because it helps the environment and the people and animals that lives on it. We need to do whatever we can to save water. When you take short showers you can save water. I will argue that because California is in a  serious drought, people are using too much water. For example, farmers uses a lot of water for their crops which causes a lot of run off. Another example, is when people are using water they waste it by allowing it to run while they are not using it. Taking too long of a shower, running water while cooking, flushing the toilet, and mopping the floors everyday is wasting water. Every time someone wastes water it causes the drought situation to become worse. I wish people would  was stop wasting water. I believe if people continue to waste water we are going die.

Do you know that 80% of water in California is used for farming? That’s kind of wasting water for us to use. People in other states should grow they own fruits and vegetables instead of using California fruits and vegetables so California can save more water.

There are many ways that we can save water.
There are many simple ways people can save water. One way that people can save water as I had mentioned before is to take shorter showers. Taking shorter showers can reduce the unnecessary waste of water. Another way is eating less beef.  A lot of water is used for raising cattle, therefore if we eat less beef we can also conserve a lot of water.
