The Purpose of the Blog

In California, we are in the middle of a drought. Our water uses are too much for the minimal rain and snowfalls over the past four years. The snowpack is our main water supply and has been below average for four consecutive years. If we keep using the amount of water we are using now, we will completely run out. We are currently using our groundwater, kind of like our backup storage.

To tell the truth, farms are using up most of our water supply, and by raising so much livestock, we waste water, land and we pollute the earth. Cows create methane, which is a greenhouse gas. Animal agriculture is responsible for ⅕ of the gas emissions worldwide. This is a problem that we need to fix.

In science class, we have been learning about water around the world, and how hard it is for people in many places to access clean water, which leads to health problems. Also, many girls around the world are responsible for getting water for their families, which often means walking for hours each day, and missing out on opportunities for education. We are doing a fundraiser for http://www.water.org/, an organization that helps people around the world access clean water. This is why we are writing this blog: To educate the public about water, in California and around the world!

How to Save Water
by My Name is Jeff

So I am walking out the door to go outside, and then I heard the news say something about the drought. I stopped and took a look. They were talking about ways we can save water. Boom it hit me, I am going to try to save water. I looked up what can I do to save water and there are a whole bunch of ways, like don’t eat lots of beef. I think we need to save water because we would help the environment.

EAT LESS BEEF
Beef makes the most water waste. It uses 1000 gallons of water for one steak. Some people don’t know that beef is a big water waste. You can try the “vegan till 6:00” or the Meatless Monday. Vegan till 6 is when you don’t eat meat till 6, and Meatless Monday is when you don’t eat meat on Mondays.

SAVING WATER AROUND THE HOUSE
There are a lot of ways to save water around the house. One way is that we can use shower water to flush the toilet. Another thing is we can use the soap to put it on your hands and then turn the water on instead of turn on the water while you put soap on your hands. Also don’t water your grass so much because it waste 180 gallons of water.

Conclusion
In conclusion we should safe water to help the environment. People say it’s hard to not eat meat but when you try for one day it will make a difference. The environment is really important so we don’t want go on a drought.
