The Purpose of the Blog

In California, we are in the middle of a drought. Our water uses are too much for the minimal rain and snowfalls over the past four years. The snowpack is our main water supply and has been below average for four consecutive years. If we keep using the amount of water we are using now, we will completely run out. We are currently using our groundwater, kind of like our backup storage.

To tell the truth, farms are using up most of our water supply, and by raising so much livestock, we waste water, land and we pollute the earth. Cows create methane, which is a greenhouse gas. Animal agriculture is responsible for ⅕ of the gas emissions worldwide. This is a problem that we need to fix.

In science class, we have been learning about water around the world, and how hard it is for people in many places to access clean water, which leads to health problems. Also, many girls around the world are responsible for getting water for their families, which often means walking for hours each day, and missing out on opportunities for education. We are doing a fundraiser for http://www.water.org/, an organization that helps people around the world access clean water. This is why we are writing this blog: To educate the public about water, in California and around the world!

Donate to Water.org
by Hope #1

Would you feel sad if you didn’t have enough water and your brothers and sisters were dying   because of the lack of water? Well in Africa kids and babies are dying. I think that we should donate to www.water.org because (1) girls miss out on school to get water, (2) every time a girl goes and get water they put the bucket on their head and that makes a dent in their skull, and (3) www.water.org is a website that helps countries that don’t have enough water. I know this because in class this man from Kenya came in and talked to us and told us all about his country and told us about how the girls get dents on their heads. I am trying to help by convincing people to donate to www.water.org.

Every time girls go and get water for their family they miss out on school and they walk 4 miles or more to get 1 gallon, for their family and their whole little village. They use that one gallon to wash dishes, wash clothes, and wash their hands and once they are done, the girls have to walk 4 more miles.  And the boys are the ones who go to school and once they’re done they go and hunt lion and don’t miss out on school.

Water.org helps countries with people that don’t have enough water and makes wells under ground, so that in Africa all the girls don’t have walk 4 miles to go and get just 1 gallon  for their whole little village. And sometimes they get water from the same places where animals do their business, so they dirty water. So that is why water.org is a helpful website.

Every time a girl goes and gets water, they put it on their head to make it easier to carry. So they get a dent because of the pressure the gallon, and the moms get dents too, but the boys don’t. I learned this because a man came to talk about his life in Kenya and told us that the dents gets deeper every time they get water.

These are my reasons why we should donate to water.org. Here are my reasons again: (1) girls have to miss out of school and have to walk 4 miles (2) water.org is a helpful website that helps countries that don’t have enough water, (3)every time a girl goes and gets water they get a dent in their head.  And so please donate to www.water.org.
